6.13.18. G. and I took a field trip to the Alamo Theater in Brooklyn as a mini reunion. We watched Hereditary, my first scary movie since the movie Clare both loved and hated over Thanksgiving, drank beers, ate food, and did stuff like this that reminded me so much of our time in Puerto Rico. We even texted the old gang. Restaurant #28: The Alamo Theater

6.12.18. M and I attended the Frag. Found. awards. We wrote beautiful speeches that were never given. We took selfies in front of a wall and made assumptions about people that looked like we should know them because they vaguely looked famous. We got a 10lb bag of fragrances and sat at a table for 6 with 10 chairs on it. Good times.

6.9.18. In one of their first forays out post-baby, N and L organized an afternoon concert (Nathanial Rateliff, never heard of him) at Forest Hills Stadium. The stadium was surprisingly cool, the crowd was shockingly un-25 and rowdy, and it was relatively easy to get there and get home. Wins all around.

6.5.18. Day 4 in Venice! Today we branched out to Murano and the colorful little island of Burano. We perused over-priced glass sculptures and trinkets, and finally settled on a side shop's collection of water glasses with rainbow leaves. On the way home, Dad and I stopped off at the St. Mark's tower to check out the view. We tried Aperol Spritz and Cichetti sandwiches for the first time, and we had our final dinner of the trip at Osteria ai Artisti. I introduced Mom and Dad to the Harvard tradition of limericks. Mine were:
Our Robin's the queen of exploring
Through meticulous plans and imploring
That we all leave the house
Trade our sweats for a blouse
And enjoy a sweet life that's not boring!
Our Dave, he might seem like he's shy
He's the apple of Jack Rabbit's eye
Want some facts? He's your bloke
Also great for a joke
When in trouble, there's no better guy!

6.4.18. Day 3 in Venice! In the morning, we did a tour of the Doge's Palace and the Bridge of Sighs. The tour guide was excellent, and when we tipped him he asked if we wanted change (that's been a theme here...). Afterwards, we did a short boat tour of the Guidecca islands across from St. Mark's, and I peeled off to climb the bell tower on St. George's by myself. We had dinner at Ai Mercanti, this time sitting outside. The waitress gave us a fantastic white wine, then claimed that the bottle had a hole in the bottom when she went to refill us (the couple next to us said we were wine shamed... I'll take it, totally worth the shaming). The night ended with a low key concert of classical music in a theater off of St. Mark's.

6.3.18. Day 2 in Venice! We did the predictable thing and took a gondola ride. It was like an amusement park / DisneyWorld ride... the boats were super close to one another and they followed a very prescribed route around the canals. Even so, I loved peaking into the waterside doors to buildings and learning more about the water culture of this place. Afterwards, we checked out the Guggenheim Museum and did a (mediocre) walking tour. Dinner at CoVino was spectacular. It's a TINY little 10 table kitchen with tasting menu featuring fresh local foods. We almost didn't find it because it's so hidden in a back alley.

6.2.18. Day 1 in Venice! I arrived hella early and treated myself to a solo pizza lunch at Rossa Rosa. Mom and Dad arrived in the early afternoon, and we wandered around this magical place for hours before having a delicious dinner together at Ostaria Boccadoro. We sat inside at the back because of the drizzly rain and ate fresh seafood and pasta. It's strange being in Venice after years of dreams of buildings built against water. It almost feels like I've been here before. After dinner, we made our way down to St. Mark's Square to watch the little blue helicopters. Mom yelled at a peddler so violently that he broke out laughing.
